I have both small and medium Jagger brushes; both have the same quality badger. This small-size brush enables one to whip-up an incredible lather and it's a controllable lather. Unlike the medium brush, I don't have lather cascading from the knot end of the bristles in a nearly uncontrollable manner. The lather on the small brush is plentiful, and it is controllable. You won't find yourself having to three-finger the base of the bristles to maintain the lather in the upper portion of the brush. Whipped soap stays where it should so it can be dispensed where you want it. I used to have too much lather building up with the medium brush, but not the case with this one--it's perfect for whipping up a full lather. The medium brush does make a bit too much lather for me, and if I re-lather, as I often do, I don't have to contend with a store of lather at the base of the bristles.
