My first step was using a high quality shaving cream, a shaving brush, and a good moisturizer. While researching these items, I read more and more about the advantages of DE (Double Edge) safety razors.
I decided to buy one and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I almost went with the German made Merkur Heavy Duty (34c) razor, which seems to be the most commonly recommended DE for a new safety-razor-shaver. I'm glad I continued to investigate razors (the Badger and Blade internet forum is a fantastic resource) because the English made Edwin Jagger De89 is considered, by many, to be superior to the Merkur.

I bought this razor because I was tired of throwing away disposable razors after only a few uses, some cheaper blades only lasting HALF A SHAVE! I have very course hair at 26, and I knew it would only get worse, those cheapy disposables might be okay for teenagers and college kids but I needed a new way to shave. Based on the combination of reviews on [...] and what was available on amazon prime for next day shipping, I settled on this safety razor.
I couldn't be happier! The razor is beautiful- ornate and shiny, better than I expected for the price. The De89lbl has all metal parts (3 parts to be exact, and they seem to be chrome plated. After a few weeks of use the razor still looks brand new and I am still using the original blade!

I don't have a really heavy beard but I need to shave every day for work. I have been wetshaving for some time and I own two Merkur razors and a Parker. This razor is as good or better than the Merkurs. It is well made and exceptionally well finished with the shiniest chrome finish I have ever seen. I purchased it because it was reported as a mild shaver which was very forgiving. It gives an excellent and mild shave that gets me as close as anything else I have ever used. I have the model with the lined chrome handle which is very easy to grip and hold. I've seen the same model advertised with a plastic accent on the handle but I thought they might tend to be slippery so I passed on them.
This razor is an excellent product for me and I don't think it will disappoint anyone else.
